Sean, Will and I tried life sculpting a fortnight ago... so here's some pictures of my first attempt - 45 - 50 mins. Not being experienced, I approached it in a very haphazard fashion, first moulding a large chunk and seperating out elements to form the limbs, then pulling off the arms to work on the trunk. I then tried a sort of segmented idea, where the head and arms etc would be attached at 'joints'. I made the mistake of staying in the same spot and really only worked on one side, having roughed out the pose in the clay (well, nylon reinforced 'newclay') so plan to do a lot more running around the model and plan to sketch from a few different angles beforehand.
All said, it was really fantastic fun, utterly absorbing and intense and a complete rush! Can't wait to do more...in fact am heading down to Wapping for a day's life drawing on Saturday and we've kindly been granted permission to sculpt there too ;) Let me know if any of you guys want details... it's a great class and only £10 for he whole day, 10 am to 4 pm.
For those who asked, there was a head, and I spent far too long messing around with it trying to capture a vague likeness only to destroy it when attaching it to the model... a real learning curve ;)
